Clay and Lampwork Blog Hop

Recently Lisa Lodge of Pine Ridge Treasures sent out the call for another blog hop.  This one is a Clay and/or Lampwork Blog Hop.  We signed up and received either a Clay or Lampwork set of beads to work with.  I received some wonderful Lampwork beads from Bastille Bleu.  Again, I forgot to take a picture of the beads before starting, but later in the pictures I'll pinpoint the 3 wonderful beads I received.  I knew I wanted to do something that would either be a multi-strand necklace or have the appearance of multi-strands.  And as I played around with the beads, I didn't like the looks of the small blue bead in between the 2 larger lovely flower beads.  So I decided they should be the focal for the lower strand of the necklace.  But I wasn't sure I had enough beads to make 2 or 3 full strands.  So I started playing around with one main strand, done with 2 strands of beading wire and then splitting right at the center to use the 2 larger beads as the focal and the smaller blue bead above it in a shorter strand to make it appear to be 2 strands.  The more I played with it, the more I liked it.  I had just received all the glass pearls and faceted beads I'd won from ZNETshows and their last challenge I was in.  It was great, since I'm not much of a blue person and don't usually have much blue in my stash.  There was some wonderful blue beads along with the greens, clear, yellow faceted glass beads that matched the colors that were in the larger lampwork flower beads along with some white glass pearls. I also bought some pink round and faceted round glass/shell beads to bring out the pinks.  I wanted this to be a very 'blingy' necklace to make the Lampwork flower beads shine.  Then I had to make sure 2 strands of beading wire would fit through all the beads I was using.  And finally I had to figure out how to finish off the strands.  I had this lovely Silver colored leaf toggle bar clasp that came in my winnings from ZNET and thought it would go well with the 'flower' beads.  But I couldn't get the crimp beads to take both strands of wire up through around the jump ring and back down through the crimps.  It was too much. So I had to divide the 2 strands on the one main strand and crimp them both to a jump ring.  Then I made another strand to make the necklace appear as 3 strands in the center and had to crimp them to another jump ring and attach the 2 jump rings to the leaf toggle bar clasp.  It was a little more difficult than I had imagined, but I finally got them all crimped and attached.  I love the way they turned out.  And of course I had to have earrings to match.  So I hope you enjoy what I made with my lampwork beads.  In the first picture the 2 larger flower lampwork beads and the small blue lampwork bead in the short strand just above are the three beads I received.  Let me know what you think.

Then, because I got done so quick with this set, I asked for another set and got these gorgeous lampwork beads fromStudioJuls along with the small pink/orange seed beads. And as usual, forgot the pictures, but if you look close at my bracelet, they're the large round lampwork beads.  There's 4 of them in this bracelet.  I paired them with some great Jasper I had, some gold glass pearls from ZNETshows, the small pink/orange seed beads and some small black seed beads I had.  This was my first go at a memory wire bracelet and I knew I wanted it to be 3 strands.  It took me 3 times of stringing, removing and restringing the beads to get enough on the memory wire.  I had laid them all out and thought I had enough, but NOT!  LOL.  But I think it turned out great for my first Memory Wire bracelet.  Hope you enjoy it.

ZNETshows Partner Picks Summer Challenge and Giveaway

Once again, I've been fortunate to be chosen as a designer for ZNETshows. This time it was a little different, though.  We were partnered up and the partner chose beads from a list to send to us and then we were challenged to design something with them. I was partnered with Rachel Baron, who has been nursing a broken hand for the last few weeks. But she's hoping to have something created for the reveal and hop. Please check out her blog RBaronDesigns and see what she created.  I didn't get the memo to her in time though, that I DON'T DO BLUE!  LOL, so as you can see, most of my beads were Blue.  I'm becoming pretty proficient at designing with blue though, since my last several challenges have included Blue.  This is what I received:
Blue Square Cultured Sea Glass Nuggets, code S45
Khaki Round Glass Pearls, code BDS1618
Labradorite Oval Pendant Grade AAA, code PT513
Meridian Blue Chinese Crystal Rectangle Glass Beads, code RS176
Blue/Turquoise Bay Cultured Sea Glass Conch Shell Beads, code S29
Antique Brass Base Metal Conch Shell charms, code M0078-AB  and
Antique Brass Base Metal Starfish charms, code M0477-AB   Aren't they all great and very Summery and Beachy?  In fact that was the theme for this challenge.  We were to think 'The Beach' for our designs.  So here's what I created.
First with some freeform Blue Cultured Sea Glass beads I had for another challenge, I created my Beach bracelet, using the Antique Brass Starfish and Conch Shell charms. I think it turned out great.

Next, I used the Blue Square Nugget Cultured Sea Glass, the Meridian Blue Chinese Crystal and the Khaki Glass Pearls to string 3 strands. Then I used some Silver Plated chain I had, took it apart and made links to attach links of the Blue Chinese Crystal and Khaki beads and the Blue Sea Glass and Khaki beads. I also used the Labradorite Pendant as an extra focal in between all the chain and strung a long necklace.
Finally I used some Wine cooler bottle caps I had that seemed very beachy to me with the Palm trees on them and hung a Blue Conch Shell bead along with a Starfish and Conch Shell charm from them to make some fun Beach earrings.

I still have a few beads left and will be creating more beach item with them later.  Hope you like my Kreationz.  Be sure to check out ZNETshows.com for their great wholesale beads.
And now for the GIVEAWAY!  Run to ZNETshows blog to see all the participants on Saturday, July 6th and to enter the contest for some of their beads so you can make your own Beach Kreationz.
If you're looking for these pieces or more of my Wire-wrapped, Bead jewelry or Stained Glass, Mosaics and Fused Glass Kreationz for your Home and Garden, check out my shop, KayzKreationz.

Another ZNETshows Challenge-Artisan Whimsy 5x5 challenge

About a month ago, Artisan Whimsy had a post about a challenge for 5 people.  After you signed up, if you were picked you received a 5 piece set of ZNETshows Cultured Beach Sea Glass beads to design with.  I wasn't picked in the first round, but then Bill Zhang of ZNET decided to send a pack to everyone that had signed up whether they were picked or not. WooHoo!  In case you can't tell, I love their Cultured Sea Glass beads.  Anyway, this is the pack I received. (Yes, I actually remembered to take a picture before I started creating this time. LOL)  If you've read my blog posts before you remember I don't usually work with Blue.  But these freeform blue seaglass beads just seemed to cry out to be a bracelet.  It's a very simple design, but I like the look of it and the beachy sea critter dangles (also from ZNETshows) to make a fun, summery, beachy bracelet.  I did a simple copper wire wrap/loop in each bead, connected them all with some bronze jump rings I had, (I love mixing metals), used a copper ring I had for the toggle and made my own copper S-clasp for a closure.  Then I dangled 2 bronze starfish and 2 bronze conch shell dangles from each jump ring in between the seaglass beads.  Next, I took the 2 green rectangular beads and the 2 white square beads and layered them. I used some small green beads I had and wire-wrapped/wove them around the jump ring that attached them to the earwires and finished off with a spiral with the copper wire.  Finally I took the green fishbone beads and the small green beads that were in between them on the strand, along with some light green faceted beads I'd gotten from ZNET in an earlier design challenge and strung them with some copper bead caps and copper shell beads. In the center I added a bronze pendant bale. I then strung the 2 green conch shell beads on some copper chain along with 2 of the small green beads and one light green beads with copper bead caps on copper wire and made the focal for the necklace. I had this funky copper chain and attached the sea glass beaded centerpiece to the chain and used the simple copper clasp that came with it to finish it off.  All in all I am very happy with the way all three pieces turned out. I'm still working on a pair of fishbone earrings to match the necklace, but ran out of time.  Hope you enjoy my designs.  ZNETshows mainly offers wholesale beads, but you can also buy retail, so if you're looking for your own Cultured Sea Glass or other beads (like the starfish and conch shell metal beads in my bracelet) check out their site, ZNETshows.

Anklet Blog Hop Reveal

(If you're looking for my AJE reveal with SueBeads component, click here)
Well I managed to sign myself up for 4 challenges/reveals within a month time. When I was doing this they all sounded like so much fun, I wasn't paying attention to the time frame.  This is the 3rd of the 4. The last one comes on June 7th.  Sadafulee had posted about having a blog hop with anklets.  I like anklets and have a few, but always forget to wear them.  And I've never tried making one. (Or if I have it was a LONG time ago)  But I figured it couldn't be that hard.  Plus, I used to make macramé jewelry back in the 70's when it first became popular in small town Missouri where I lived and had been trying my hand at it again little by little.  I made a macramé hanger for one of my fused glass pieces and incorporated small shells. I made a macramé guitar strap for my son for one of his guitars, so I thought, what better than to make a macramé anklet.  I had won some great little tube beads a while back and had some macramé cord left over from the 70's that would go great with these beads. Plus I dug through a stash of other beads I'd won and found some great Onyx beads in the brownish/orange color in the beads and that would go great with my macramé cord.  So I picked out my orange and beige waxed nylon cords and the beads and got ready to start. I also knew I wanted to try a sliding clasp for this anklet as I'd been reading about these and had just seen one on a friend's bracelet, so found a tutorial about how to do it and got started.  I couldn't finish it like she suggested as I didn't have any needles that would go back up through my knots, but I just knotted and tied off like I used to and I think it turned out great. This way I can open it up to slip on over my foot and then adjust it to fit my ankle and have little dangles.  I used some small Czech faceted glass beads I had for the dangles in a coordinating brown color.  I love it. Now to get to wear it. And best of all I still have 3 of the tube beads left to make something else or another one to sell, give away or something.  What do you think?  Do you like macramé?  Would you wear this?

I never realized how hard it is to photograph an anklet or anything while wearing it, but I wanted to show it on the ankle. Check out all the participants and see how each one met the challenge of creating an anklet/anklets.  I only had time to create one anklet due to time constraints.  However I will be creating more.  For some reason I can't get the list of participants to post properly, so please visit Kashmira's Blog and see what everyone else created.

And if you're looking for some of my other Jewelry, Stained Glass, Mosaic or Fused Glass Kreationz for your Home or Garden, be sure to check out my shop, KayzKreationz.  Thanks for stopping by.

Art Jewelry Elements May Component of the Month Reveal

Every month, Art Jewelry Elements does a Component challenge and giveaway.  One of their talented contributors makes up a number of components, people comment to signup and then they pick from among the commenters a number of people that will receive one of the components and design something with it, along with their AJE Team.  This is actually the second time I've been chosen as one of the participants. This time around the component was from SueBeads blog.  I love her beads and discs.  Check out her Etsy shop, Sue Beads. As usual, I was so excited when I got my package, I forgot to take a picture of my Ruffled Disc. Now most of you know, I don't do blue. Just not my thing. But she asked us to let her pick the disc for us and not ask for a specific color or disc.  So, when I got my disc, guess which one it was? LOL  Yep, all blue.  But I immediately knew what I wanted to do with it. (Well, kind of, because it was either going to be a brooch/pin or bracelet) But the bracelet won out.  I'd won a slider bracelet using the Cousins new slider bracelet finding recently and really liked it. One problem, I can't find their slider bracelets anywhere around where I am and didn't have time to order one. But Hobby Lobby had something close.  So now I needed to decide on colors to add. I decided to basically stay with the main colors on the color wheel, i.e. reds, blues, yellows, greens. So I got out a piece of copper/brass metal I had, textured it and a piece of green leather/suede I had.  I had just read about using my Big Kick to texture leather and wanted to try this, so I ran it through my Big Kick and it turned out great. Although you probably can't see the texture here in the picture, you can see it well in person, close up.  I made my 4 stamens for the flowers, using copper wire, punched holes in the metal and the leather, ran the 4 lengths of wire through all three pieces. Then I wrapped the longer piece of wire from one of the stamens around the other 3 to wire them all together, curled the shortest piece of wire to keep it from coming out and proceeded to wrap the other 3 pieces of wire around the band of the bracelet.  I was going to do curly-q's with the wire but decided against it.  I finally got my measurement for the leather, cut it and glued the clasp on to it.  It's not quite like I first envisioned, but I think I like the way it turned out.  Thanks so much Art Jewelry Elements for sponsoring this giveaway and reveal. And thanks SueBeads for the wonderful component and picking me to be one of the challengers.  At long last here's my bracelet with my SueBeads Ruffle Disc.  Tell me how you think I did.

Earring Swap Blog Hop Reveal!

About a month ago, I signed up for a different blog hop. Jessica of Whimsical Monkey was wanting to know who would be interested in an earring blog hop.  You would sign up, get a partner and then find out what they liked/disliked, what their favorite colors were, if they liked short, long, dangly earrings, etc.  It sounded like fun, so I threw my name in the hat.  I got paired with Jessica McMullen of Pheonix Gate Arts.  She does leather work and is working on some armor for her hubby.   When I contacted her, she said her favorite colors were blue, black and silver, and that she wore mainly lightweight earrings.  Now, I don't do blue, so I don't usually have much blue in my stash.  But I had just won a stash of beads and wouldn't you know it, there was some great blue beads and coordinating beads in the stash. There was some porcelain/ceramic, some onyx, some glass and Czech glass and more.  There was also the great pewter (in black and silver) earring findings to hold five different dangles.  So I got to work picking out all the beads I wanted to use and then laying them out in different patterns.  I wanted to make sure they weren't too heavy for Jessica, though.  I also don't have much silver in my stash, but I had this great Non-Tarnish Silver wire from Artistic Wire and made my own 'Tumbleweed' ear wires to match. I hope she likes them.  But then, I wanted to do something fun for her, too. I had these cute bottle caps from Guiness Black Lager beer that my son likes. So after cleaning them real well, I folded the grooved edge of the caps up all the way around to look like a ruffle.  Then I punched 3 holes in the bottom of the ruffle and one hole in the top and went back to my stash. As it happens these bottle caps are BLUE with their gold logo, which to me looks like a harp.  (The only problem with bottle caps is getting them off the bottle without bending them all up.  But that makes them unique.)  So this time I used more gold toned beads with the blue and then had some dark brass/bronze ear wires I attached to the top hole to make some fun earrings.  These are light weight also.  Hopefully she'll like both pairs of earrings.  If you'd like your own pair of beer cap/drink cap earrings feel free to contact me here on my blog or in my Etsy shop, KayzKreationz.  I've got several pair I'm going to be listing soon.

Now, here's what Jessica decided to make for me. I told her I love metal, mixed media, wire, leather, stones, etc.  And then I told her pretty much, just surprise me.  I also told her I usually wear long dangly, chunky earrings.  Aren't these great? (Well, due to postal problems, I haven't received my earrings from Jessica. They were supposed to be here Saturday, but I was out of town for a wedding Saturday and Sunday.  As soon as I get home, hopefully they'll be here and I can be surprised and get pictures.  So stay tuned/come back later Monday or Tuesday and you'll be able to see what Jessica sent me. I know they're going to be fantastic.)
Here's the rest of the participants. I know some hadn't gotten their earrigs yet an were waiting on them to post, so be sure to check back and forth for the next day or two. Hopefully everyone will have their reveal and posts up then. If the links aren't clickable, check Jessica's blog, Whimsical Monkey. Thanks.

Earth As Art Color Challenge From Treasures Found

It's here! The first of November I signed up for the Color Challenge that Erin Prais-Hintz, of Treasures Found, always has in November. I did it last November for the first time. If you're really wanting to challenge yourself or just get new inspiration, you should really check out her Color Challenges. Just as the name implies, they will challenge you.  She has a different theme every time and selects one or two color palettes for you to use to make a piece of jewelry.  This time around, Brandi Hussey from BrandiGirl blog picked out 40 of the 120 NASA pictures from their Earth As Art photographs and made color palettes from those. They are truly inspiring.  Then Erin picked out the 2 color palettes for each of the 80 participants and e-mailed them to us, letting us pick which palette we would work with.  These are the 2 palettes I received.  The first is the Great Sandy Scars from Australia.  I love these colors and picked this one to be the main one to work with.  Description: In a small corner of the vast Great Sandy Desert in Western Australia, large sand dunes—the only sand in this desert of scrub and rock—appear as lines stretching from left to right. The light-colored fan shapes are scars from wildfires. Isn't that cool?
This is what I came up with from my Color Palette.  I used some Glass Beads from Hobby Lobby, some Purple Potato Pearls and Green Daggers (can't remember the name of the bead on these) I had on hand, some Light Green/Yellow sari ribbon I had and the cutest little blue/gray owl I received from Natalie Pappas along with a brass colored Leaf toggle clasp to make it appear the owl was in the leaves of a tree high overhead the Great Sandy Scars. (I know, he probably wouldn't be in that part of the world, but I liked the idea.)  I added some dark brass colored chain I had to wrap around the Green and Purple strand.  Did I catch the essence of the Great Sandy Scars?

Here's the second palette I received. This one was really a challenge for me. I'm not a fan of blue and these are not colors I usually or ever work with.  I'm still trying to get my Kumihimo braid finished off for this necklace, so not sure I'll get it done in time to post.  But I took Dyed Imperial Jasper Sapphire, Natural Shell rice, and Carnelian dyed nuggets from Michael's along with some Yellow Round hole beads from Hobby Lobby and some Copper Filigree beads I had received as a gift and strung them to hang with the Salsa yarn and Gold and Orange ribbon to make my Kumihimo braid. Finished off the braid with brass/copper bead caps and attached all 3 strands to copper jump rings and chain. Then I finished it off with a Copper Square Toggle clasp to match the square Filigree beads.  It is from the Color palette Lake Eyre, also in Australia. Description: Do you see a scary face looking back at you? The hollow-appearing eyes, narrow nose, and slash of a mouth are inundated patches of shallow Lake Eyre (pronounced "air"). Deep in the desert country of northern South Australia, Lake Eyre is an ephemeral feature of this flat, parched landscape. When seasonal rains are abundant, water fills the lakebed to some degree. During the last 150 years, Lake Eyre has filled completely only three times. When brimming, it is Australia's largest lake.

Unfortunately, I've run out of time, between company, appointments, cooking for some volunteers that are coming this weekend to help us and other things, so I don't quite have this piece done, but here it is so far. I still have to finish off my Kumihimo braid, then attach all three strings to the copper chain and the copper toggle clasp, which is in the picture. Hopefully I'll get it done and post the finished project Monday or Tuesday. So if you'd like to see it finished, check back then and let me know what you think.
I thought it was interesting to read about each of these spots, too, so I included the description of each from USGS/EROS Image gallery. To see more great Earth as Art pictures click the name.  So what do you think?  Did I capture the essence of Lake Eyre in this necklace?  Did I meet the challenge of using colors I never work with and make something you would wear? Keep checking my blog or Etsy shop as this one at least will be listed for sale soon. If you like either one and want it sooner, you can e-mail me or convo me from my Etsy shop, KayzKreationz and let me know.  And be sure to check out Treasures Found for the other 79 participants in this Color Challenge.  And if you're looking for more Stained Glass, Mosaic, Fused Glass Kreationz for your Home or Garden, or more Beaded, Wire-wrapped jewelry for yourself or as gifts, check out my shop for those, too, KayzKreationz.
