Bead Soup Blog Party-My Kreationz

There's this wonderful thing I found last spring called the Bead Soup Blog Party (BSBP for short).  It's created by Lori of Pretty Things.  People sign up, are assigned partners, exchange beads and then create something out of the beads they receive.  The partners are supposed to try to find out something about their partner and then something from their Bead stash that would push their partner to create outside their "comfort zone", think "outside the box" so to speak.  The only Bead requirement is you send a Focal and a Clasp, (something other than just a lobster clasp). The creativity of the people that participate is just beyond words.  Anyway, I decided to "play" this time and was assigned Loretta Carstensen, of Designs by Loretta, from California.  Here is the wonderful soup she sent me:
It consisted of Smoky Quartz nuggets, a Dalmation Jasper strand, some pretty little gold seed beads, some 14K gold filled spacers, a 14K Gold filled clasp, and a shell/MOP focal, that I haven't figured out what I want to use for, yet.  Anyway, here's what I created.  A Fan Pull with one of the Smoky Quartz nuggets, a Necklace with the Smoky Quartz Focal and other nuggets and a pair of earrings to go with the necklace.  I wire wrapped the nuggets, made my own link with a bead I had for the Focal, added some other of the same beads as links with the Dalmation Jasper and Gold seed beads and  used Brass wire to bring out the gold as links to attach the Gold filled clasp.  The only thing I'm not sure of is whether I want to leave the Fiber I added in the necklace or not.  Although I like the extra color and texture it adds, I'm not sure I'm really fond of it in this case, since it seems to take away from all the wire work.  Anyway here's my Kreationz.  Hope you like them.  And when you're done looking at them and hopefully leaving me a comment, you can visit the rest of the BSBP participants by clicking on the list below.  (If it's not clickable, please visit Pretty Things Blog for the full list)
This is the one with the fiber.
Without further ado, go to Pretty Things for the list for you to visit:
Click on each name to go to their blogs. These are the partner pairs.

The Hostess, Lori Anderson and her partner, Manuela Wutschke

I'm so sorry, I had the list here, but it wasn't clickable, so I didn't do something right.  But if you click on Lori Anderson or Pretty Things it will take you to the full list of participants and is clickable. Please visit all the blogs as you have time.  Enjoy.

Great finished pieces. I quite like the fibre in, but I gather you'll go with what feels better to you to wear and to your eye. Great stuff. ;-)

Wow with the wire!

Beautiful Kay, I must admit I prefer the necklace with out the fiber, because then you can see the cool wire wrap on the crystals.

Thanks all. Heather, while I do like the fiber in it, I'm kind of with Therese on this. If I leave the fiber in, you can't see all the detail. I may switch it back and forth to wear. Not sure yet.

They are both outstanding and perfect for the autumn season. Love em both.

My choice is no fiber, it then shows the beautiful detail. Great piece for autumn. Nicely done.

Beautiful work I love all the wire wrapping also! Happy Hopping!!

Beautiful, and my personal preference without the fiber. I would like to showoff the beads, the wirework ... stunning!

Totally gorgeous ingredients became totally decadent finished pieces! Well done!!

I love the piece anyway you look at it! The wire wrapping does make all the components stand out on their own. The fiber makes the necklace fun and who can use fun in there life! Fabulous work!

Tracey Leeder said...

Very nice! I love how you used the fiber, but I love how you can see all the detail in the wire wrapped piece.

Totally awesome designs! I really love the color and texture of the fiber. Great work. ♥

I am SO sorry for being late -- today our internet provider decided to crash. My stress level is through the roof, to say the least! They're still working on it, but it's like dial-up.

Awesome work, and clever designs! A lot of people are using fiber and I just do NOT have the knack yet! I need to learn!

I hope you'll participate again!

Love, Lori

Beautiful necklace. While I like the element of the fiber, I think it takes away from the beauty of the stones. They are too pretty to hide! My vote is for the necklace without the fiber. :)

Maneki said...

Beautiful pieces! I love the necklace as it is without the fiber as I think it really makes each bead shine. The beads are lovely, not least combined this way with the nuggets and rings, so that'd really show them off. I quite like the colour combo without the fiber too, it's more my style and that's probably partially why I prefer the first version.

Fab job!

Noemi said...

I think a prefer it without the fabric, as the fabric doesn't let the beauty of the necklace show.

Holly said...

Beautiful pieces! I love all the wirework you did - so detailed!

Really nice Kay! Beautiful work with your mix ~ love the wire work and the fiber together! Great fall colors - and you must be happy you didn't receive blue. :) Hope you're enjoying the blog hop!

Nice pieces!! I really like the one made with fiber!!

I like it without the fiber. (I have to say, that's a really funny sentence to write. I sound like I'm talking about my diet!) Beautiful work!

Stacey said...

ooo...very cool - so many awesome details! I do like both - using it both ways is a great idea - one piece so much versatility!!

Anonymous said...

Beautiful! My vote would be for no fiber, because you can see the detail better. Either way, though, would be pretty.

Sally Anderson said...

These are great pieces. You did a really awesome job on both of them but I get what you mean about personal preferences! I really love those wire wraps!

Kristy's Kreations Jewelry said...

Love it both ways but prefer it without the fiber because you're right, it does tend to take away from all of your beautiful wire work!

Kathy said...

Love the colors. Beautiful! Can't decide about the fiber. I agree about seeing the pieces better, but like how cool and bold the fiber is.

JLYNNJEWELS said...

Another gorgeous mix of beads...loved your wire wrapping and your use and placement of gemstones (including the fiber) each one gives a unique look and depending on your mood (or the weather) I can see someone wearing both versions :)

You've done a beautiful job of putting the piece together with your wire work and I prefer the version without the fibre so that you can show it off. Love the idea of the fan pull!

Beautiful bead soup! I love the rosary style necklace. You did a great job with loretta's bead soup.

Miri Agassi said...

Cool!! Great job!! I love the pieces both ways. :-)

Palimpa Lim said...

A georgeous necklace! Though I also love to incorporate fibers into my jewelry, I like this necklace better without the fiber. I think you are right: the fiber takes away of the great wire work, and the piece looks a wee bit overdone with the fiber.

Loretta said...

I'm back online, Kay. Traveling through Bend, Oregon now.

I'm so proud of my BSBP partner. You did an awesome job with your soup. You did a beautiful job with your wire wraps, and the beads you added just make it.

I love the fiber beads you make, but I think in this instance the necklace is so pretty without them.

Thanks for being a great partner.

I love the necklace both ways, but I prefer the one without the fiber.I think you are right: the fiber takes away from the stunning stones and wire work! Beautifully done!

Thanks for visiting me Kay. Nice pieces but I think I like the necklace without the fibre it hides the details.

Nice work! I like the variety in what you made.

Astrid said...

I love both necklaces but I really admire the way you used fiber, I struggle with that. Wonderful designs!

Sweet Willow Designs said...

Both are good but I think the one without the fiber is simple elegance.

with or without the ribbon, it is just perfect! gorgeous colors and style! so wearable either way.

Great pieces! Very creative designs - it would be hard to pick a fave!

Christine said...

Your necklace is beautiful either way! A fan pull is a great idea - lovely!

Sweet Freedom said...

Nice! 1st fan pull I've seen on the hop - great idea! I adore the first necklace, with that gorgeous smoky quartz pendant! I am kind of iffy on the fiber on the 2nd one; I love the texture, but not sure about the color, and it fights with what's underneath the fiber. But that's just ME - you are the one who has to be happy with it!!

Loris Glassworks said...

Wonderful! You have created two terrific piece of wearable art. You and I had the same thoughts on what to do with our soup, are designs are similar. Thank you for sharing your artistic process along the way. Cheers!

CraftyHope said...

Gracious! Those are really some amazing pieces you've created. Your use of wire is just beautiful!
As far as the fiber, while I really like all the color it adds to the piece, I do think it distracts from the beauty of the beads and the wirework you've done. Just my opinion though.
Fabulously done! Your soup is delish!

Cindy Cima said...

The fiber looks good but I love the wire work on the Smoky Quartz nuggets and think you should let them shine.
It is beautiful either way!
Great job!

Judy said...

Just wonderful! I love the textures and I think the fiber looks great on the second piece. Great job!

Silver Parrot said...

Very unique. I especially like the fiber added to the final necklace!

JuLee said...

Love the wire work piece. The fiber one, I agree might look better without it, as it does draw the eye away from the beads. Just my option tho'. You have to do what feels good to you.

beautifullybrokenme said...

I love how you incorporated your soup mix into your beautiful pieces. The fiber adds a lot of texture to the necklace - it is my favorite piece! Great job! :)

Carol Tannahill said...

Lovely work! The wirework and stones achieve just the right balance so that each can shine! I love both necklaces. I like the idea of wearing the one with the fiber before you decide.

The detailed wire is fantastic but I LOVE the fiber's colors and texture!

Mary K. McGraw said...

While I am a big fan of adding fiber, in this case I think I like it better without, as the wire work really presents the beads wonderfully. Great job.

Great work - I just love the effect of the fiber interwoven with the links, wire, and beads. Really interesting and beautiful piece!'

your wire wrapping is spectacular and i love your use of fiber! great work!

Jenni said...

Love the wire work in your necklace...I think for me, the fibre detracts from the beads and wire...they are too hidden...but I guess it's a matter of taste...I see some like it with and some without! Love the spirals near the focal.

Gorgeous creations! Your necklace is so well designed and can stand on it's own with out the fiber...but ultimately it is up to you. You did a Soup-er job!

Rebecca said...

Pretty! Looks like loads of fun to wear. I love the fibre personally! Looks great without too though.

Marian Hertzog said...

Great job with your soup! I like the necklace either way... you can change it up!

these are so pretty, great Soup!

Karen Williams said...

I have to agree that while the fiber is very pretty, it seems to overwhelm the necklace so it's all you see.

Without the fiber not only your wirework, but the smoky quartz and those cool red rings suddenly become visible and take center stage.

Anonymous said...

I love the necklace with the fiber. Your wire wraps are beautiful in both necklaces.

Great pieces! I love seeing the necklace both with and without the fiber. Very nice :)

Very nice, I have to agree that the although the fiber does add some interesting texture it completely covers up some very interesting wire work.
